Laudato Si'

Laudato Si’ is an Annual Improvement Goal that we have adopted at St Joseph’s and has been a focus for us since 2024..  In 2015, Pope Francis penned his Encyclical entitled Laudato Si’ which is a call for all people to care for their common home.

“The spirituality of Laudato Si’ understands every part of God’s Creation as our kin… It motivates us to live in communion with the whole of creation. It encourages practices of social inclusion and economic sustainability. It leads us to a commitment to relationships of mutuality and reciprocity with the whole of creation.  The spirituality of Laudato Si’ reminds us that while we have responsibilities, we are not in charge.   We are God’s creatures, called to live in communion with the rest of God’s creation, without which we cannot survive, let alone thrive.” (Cornish).

Prayer for the Season of Creation
Written by Michael McGirr
God of all life,
We thank you for the gift of creation,
For the water that keeps us alive,
For our food and shelter,
All of which come from the generosity of Earth.

We thank you for the very air we breathe
Which we share with every creature.
May we take good care of Earth
As our common home takes care of us.

May we work for justice for those
Most hurt by damage to our environment.
May we enjoy the beauty of nature
And pray that it be treated with deeper respect.

Jesus asked us to learn from the lilies of the field
And the birds of the air.
We ask this in His name.
Amen.

Pope Francis was a wonderful leader who gave a voice to all as he spoke of unity, humanity and community.  Pope Francis reminded us that God loves every person.  His work with people who have experienced marginalisation has made an incredible and immeasurable difference to so many around the world.  Pope Francis, broke the mould of the papal ministry to recast it in new and liberating ways.

His writing of the Encyclical- Living Laudato Si’ is a legacy of change that will continue in his honour.
