In the Spotlight

 Dear All,

If you have been in the school over recent days you may be aware of the silence that occurs during Naplan testing time.  National testing has one advantage in that it provides to schools some useful data which can be used for forward planning.  It however comes with a price.  I am aware of the need to have our senior secondary students involved in very formal testing under strict conditions as this testing ultimately leads to determining their educational and work future.  I don’t however believe there is any such need in primary school.  With the introduction of advertising school results and the usual media coverage this attracts, schools are obliged to place more and more emphasis on preparing for these tests thus adding pressure on our children to perform.  Having voiced my opinion I am still however very proud of all of our children because I know that every one of them is giving of their best as are the teachers who are caring for them.

Mothers' Day

We had a wonderful breakfast for Mums last Friday.  This was our first such event for mothers and it was a great success.  Thank you to the many Dads and staff members who proved what talented and capable cooks and waiters they all are.  Thank you also to Mrs Chris Hare and her band of helpers who organised the Mother’s Day Stall which followed.  The children love this opportunity to buy Mum a present.  Well done everyone.  Photos from the morning are being shown on the television mounted in the school office.

Congratulations

Congratulations are in order for Mrs Fiona Caruana (Support Teacher) and husband Gerard on the birth of their new baby boy, Luke.  Both mum and babe are now at home and well.

Trivia Night

Later in this letter I am sure there will be reference to the Trivia Night on Friday.  This is a fun evening that has grown over past years and this one likely to be the biggest to date.  I would love to see this night become a feature of the school’s social calendar and the one evening that all families consider for attendance.  It is organised by the Year 7 parents and the funds raised go towards the Canberra trip.  We look forward to seeing you here.

Kind regards

Gary
